Samsung Dishwasher: Detergent Pod Safety

Samsung dishwasher detergent pod safety — here is what you need to know.

Detergent Pod Safety for Samsung Dishwashers

Dishwasher detergent pods and tablets are a convenient alternative to liquid or powder detergent, but they require careful handling and proper use in your Samsung dishwasher. The concentrated chemicals inside detergent pods are highly alkaline and can cause serious chemical burns to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. In addition, improper use of pods in your dishwasher can lead to residue buildup, poor cleaning performance, and damage to dishwasher components.

Child Safety Warning

Dishwasher detergent pods are the leading cause of pediatric poisoning incidents related to household cleaning products. Their bright colors and candy-like appearance attract young children. Store all dishwasher detergent pods in a locked cabinet or on a high shelf completely out of children’s reach. Never leave a pod sitting on the counter or in the dishwasher door where a child could grab it. If a child ingests or mouths a detergent pod, call Poison Control immediately at 1-800-222-1222 and rinse the affected area with water.

Proper Use in Samsung Dishwashers

Place the detergent pod in the main detergent dispenser compartment of your Samsung dishwasher, not loose in the bottom of the tub. The dispenser releases the pod at the correct point in the wash cycle for optimal cleaning. Placing a pod in the bottom of the dishwasher causes it to dissolve during the pre-rinse phase, wasting most of the detergent before the main wash cycle begins. Use only one pod per load — using multiple pods does not improve cleaning and creates excessive suds that can leak from the dishwasher door.

Storage and Handling

Handle detergent pods with dry hands only. Moisture on your fingers can begin dissolving the pod’s water-soluble film, releasing concentrated detergent onto your skin. Store pods in their original container with the lid securely closed in a cool, dry location. Do not store pods under the kitchen sink if there is any risk of moisture exposure from pipe leaks, as humidity can cause pods to stick together and dissolve prematurely. If a pod appears damaged, swollen, or partially dissolved, discard it safely rather than attempting to use it.
