Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. Do not repeatedly attempt to ignite a gas dryer with an Et error. While modern Samsung gas dryers have redundant safety controls, repeated failed ignition attempts can allow trace amounts of unburned gas to accumulate. Have the ignition system repaired before further use.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Power cycle the dryer and attempt one more cycle. If the gas supply was temporarily interrupted (empty propane tank, utility maintenance), Et will clear once gas flow is restored. Persistent Et requires professional repair.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: You smell gas near the dryer at any time, The igniter glows but fails to light a flame on multiple consecutive attempts.
Symptoms You May Notice
Dryer tumbles but air stays cold
The drum rotates and airflow feels present, but the air is room temperature because the gas burner never ignites.
Et code on display
The control panel shows Et after the dryer attempts and fails to ignite the gas burner.
Brief warmth then cold air
The dryer may produce warmth for a few seconds as the igniter glows, then the air goes cold because the gas valve does not fully open.
Clicking sounds from the gas valve area
Audible clicking as the gas valve solenoids attempt to open, followed by no ignition and the Et error code.
Possible Causes
Worn gas valve solenoid coils
The dual coils on the gas valve weaken over time, losing the ability to fully open the valve when the igniter reaches temperature. The igniter glows but gas does not flow.
Requires ProfessionalCracked or weak igniter
The silicon carbide igniter develops micro-cracks from thermal cycling and no longer reaches the temperature threshold required to signal the gas valve to open.
Requires ProfessionalGas supply interrupted
The gas shutoff valve behind the dryer is closed, the gas line has a blockage, or the household gas supply is interrupted.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Check gas supply
Locate the gas shutoff valve behind the dryer. The handle should be parallel to the gas pipe (open position). If perpendicular, turn it parallel. Check that a gas stove or other gas appliance in the home works.
If you smell gas at any point, do not operate the dryer. Leave the area and call your gas company.

2
Observe the igniter
Remove the lower front access panel (usually one or two screws). Start a cycle and watch the igniter — it should glow bright orange within 30-60 seconds. If it glows but no flame appears, the valve coils are failing.
If the igniter does not glow at all, it has failed and needs replacement. Do not touch it — it is extremely fragile.

When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- The igniter glows but gas never ignites — classic sign of worn valve coils
- The igniter does not glow at all when a cycle starts
- Et code appears intermittently — works sometimes, fails other times (early valve coil failure)
