Samsung Range Hood Grease Filter Maintenance
The grease filters in your Samsung range hood are the primary defense against grease-laden cooking vapors entering the ventilation system, ductwork, and your kitchen surfaces. These aluminum or stainless steel mesh filters capture airborne grease particles before they can accumulate in locations that are difficult to clean and pose a fire hazard. A neglected grease filter not only reduces your range hood’s ventilation efficiency but also creates a concentrated fuel source directly above your cooking surface.
Cleaning Schedule
Samsung recommends cleaning range hood grease filters at least once per month with regular cooking use. If you fry, wok-cook, or grill frequently, clean the filters every two weeks. To clean, remove the filters from the range hood and soak them in a solution of hot water and degreasing dish soap for 15 to 30 minutes. Use a non-abrasive brush to loosen any remaining grease deposits. Rinse thoroughly with hot water and allow the filters to dry completely before reinstalling. Many Samsung range hood filters are also dishwasher-safe — check your model’s documentation for confirmation.
When to Replace Filters
Metal mesh grease filters have a limited effective lifespan even with regular cleaning. Over time, the mesh becomes deformed, damaged, or permanently saturated with grease that cannot be removed by cleaning. Replace the grease filters if they show visible damage such as dents, tears, or warped frames, if grease continues to drip from the filter after thorough cleaning, or if the filter is more than two to three years old. Replacement filters are available from Samsung or compatible aftermarket sources — ensure you purchase the correct size for your range hood model.
Fire Prevention
Grease is highly flammable, and accumulated grease in a range hood filter or ductwork can ignite from a stovetop flare-up or high-heat cooking below. Never leave high-heat cooking unattended, especially when frying. If a grease fire occurs on the cooktop, turn off the burner if safe to do so, cover the pan with a lid, and never throw water on a grease fire. Keep a Class K fire extinguisher (rated for cooking oil fires) within reach in your kitchen. If grease ignites in the range hood itself, evacuate the kitchen, close the door if possible, and call 911 immediately.
